While we’re shoveling snow, it’s warm inside our host home facility, All Access Sports. We’ve officially wrapped up our first two weeks of winter tackle football practice. The coaching staff is extremely impressed with the grit and determination this group is showing.
Transitions into tackle football—especially in the winter season—require toughness. Our players have hit the ground running, embracing the fundamentals of contact and teamwork.
Spotlight: The WR & Pass Catching Clinic
On Monday, Coach JB conducted a specialized clinic focused on the “Air Attack.” We had 11 dedicated athletes step up to sharpen their skills on the perimeter. We even had guests from other teams who drove over an hour to join us! It wasn’t just about running fast; it was about the technical craft of being a playmaker.
The clinic focused on four pillars of elite receiving:
- Explosive Releases: Learning how to beat press coverage at the line of scrimmage using footwork and hand fighting.
- Precision Route Running: Understanding the “Route Tree,” focusing on crisp breaks and maintaining speed through transitions.
- The Art of the Catch: Practicing hand placement (the “diamond” technique) and securing the ball through contact.
- Football IQ: Teaching our players to read defensive coverage, find the “soft spots” in a zone, and communicate with their quarterback.
“Success in the passing game is 10% athleticism and 90% preparation. Seeing these young kids put in the extra work on their craft tells us exactly what kind of season this is going to be.” — Coach JB
What’s Next?
As we move into Week 3, we will begin integrating our newly sharpened passing skills into our full-team offensive schemes. We’ll keep building on our foundation to prepare for our first game on February 22nd!
Reminders for Parents:
- Get on our GroupMe: We use this as our communication forum. It will be key as we continue to navigate our schedule during winter weather.
- Hydration: It’s easy to forget to drink water in the cold. However, it’s just as vital now as it is in August!
See you at our next practice!
