There’s something special about that first time a team feels real. Last weekend, the 4TL Football organization took over the turf. It was for the winter season’s opening jamboree. The energy was electric. Our Grade 3/4 squad stepped onto the field for the first time this year. Our Grade 7/8 squad also faced outside competition for the first time.
In a fast-paced round-robin format, the kids got a true taste of the game. They learned that football is as much about quick thinking as it is about quick feet.
The Grade 3/4 Crew: Finding Their Footing
For many of our younger athletes, this was their first-ever “live” game experience. The jamboree wasn’t just about the score; it was about the foundations.
- The Learning Curve: Seeing them line up correctly was a huge win. Executing their first handoffs against a different team was another accomplishment.
- Team Spirit: The sidelines were a roar of encouragement. By the third mini-game, the “new teammate” jitters had evaporated, replaced by high-fives and organized huddles.
The Grade 7/8 Squad: Speed and Strategy
At the older level, the game gets faster, and the hits get harder. Our 7th and 8th graders used the round-robin to test their communication under pressure.
- Defensive Grit: The defense showed flashes of brilliance, closing gaps and pursuing the ball with high intensity.
- Offensive Flow: Timing is everything at this age. The jamboree served as the perfect “dress rehearsal” to see which plays clicked and which needed a bit more polish.
Next Game Preparation
The momentum didn’t stop when the jamboree ended. As you read this, tonight’s practice is in full swing. Under the lights, both teams are back on the grind. Tonight isn’t about conditioning; it’s about precision. The coaches are drilling the playbooks. They are tightening up the routes. Every player needs to know exactly where they need to be.

“The jamboree showed us our potential; Sunday is where we show our progress.” – Coach Scottie
With the lessons from the weekend fresh in their minds, the 4TL teams are refining their strategy. They want to ensure they walk onto the field this Sunday ready to compete.
Games start at 10:00 AM and we’ll be on the field at 9:15 AM – see you there!
